How To Enable Chess In Windows 7

stwils

Today I got a brochure from Dell ad their new computers with Windows 7. I take windows xp because information technology plays all my games and chess software. (I don't similar Vista.)

What is the word well-nigh Windows 7?

What do you lot know about it and Chessmaster xi?

Is it still in the beta status even though Dell is selling it?

I heard that just good and great critics on Windows 7...but that is the only thing i know:)

Windows seven is no longer in beta, but, personally, I wouldn't consider getting a new version of Any Microsoft product until at least Service Pack ane. Just my $.02.

Thanks. I would like to know more. Vista was a flop for me considering it would not play any of my games. I'd hate to buy a laptop (which Dell is selling at a good cost) with Windows seven and have none of my games piece of work - similar Chessmaster or Fritz - or Culture 4 for that matter.

My old Windows 98 played all the old Atari games. At present, equally far equally I know, nothing does.

How come up y'all deceit run Chessmaster or Fritz on your Vista? I got Vista and both those "games", and they work perfectly...

Screw Windows.  Become with Linux lol.  Windows is proficient for gaming.  That's about it.

Windows seven is getting fantastic reviews.  It's more of a second version of Vista that addresses all the initial bug.  The pro version has a really squeamish xp way that'due south easy to use for software that may balk at windows 7.  I've been running xp forever and am taking the plunge to seven this calendar week (thirty dollar educational upgrade offering).

Really for a Microsoft product i have read and heard nothing but actually practiced/cracking reviews, and opinons.  The one thing i did hear that upgrading from Vista is like shooting fish in a barrel...upgrading from XP is going to exist actually difficult.

hmm I read the xp mode was just for troublesome applications that just wouldnt piece of work exterior of xp.  I was under the impression it was non designed for games.  I have got chessmaster 8000 running as well on vista every bit information technology does on xp*, and I've not had any problem with vista.  I call back people simply love to hate microsoft.

*ie it runs simply has the same stupid critical problems carried over from xp courtesy of the collective incompetence of ubisoft and ati.

Its not a matter of antisocial MS.  Its a matter of them putting out crappy software.

sstteevveenn

hmm I beg to differ.  Well-nigh of the software they put out is actually rather good.  including vista which got an insane amount of hate without really doing much wrong, perhaps a victim of their ain success with xp.  If you lot're upset that vista was sluggish your issue is probably with your laptop manufacturer for crappy hardware, or with yourself for believing their marketing.  If you lot had a 18-carat trouble then chances are either it was very specific to some niche software, or you lot were just genuinely unlucky.  In fact, windows 7 which is suddenly the greatest affair ever is actually in many means only a tweaked vista.

And then nosotros agree to disagree on this.  Simply years of dealing with MS and using Linux makes me believe that MS isnt anywhere nearly every bit good.  Vista was a bad thought from the start.  MS products are e'er full of bugs, security problems, and later on how many years of IE its still a security hackers dream.
